This piece was created for “Global Swarming”, a show to raise awareness of the rising honey bee crisis and the effect it will have on the future of mankind.
It has many layers starting with a handmade paper. The words were transferred and the bees were collaged in with wax.
'To Be' Encaustic with Elements 12" x 12"
This is my tribute to Tim Burton. I wanted to name the piece from one of his quotes: "One person's crazy is another person's reality". Decided the quote was too long for a title but oh so true. I found the metal bird cage at a recycling plant, not having a clue where it would end up. I am quite satisfied with how it turned out. It makes me happy.
"Yellow Bird" 60" x 10" Encaustic with Elements
I did this piece for an Exhibition that required sound to be part of the art work. I incorporated a music box and used images of times past. The haunting tree, from a photo found at my mother's house, is inside on the right side of the box. The front is an image from a fabulous time spent in New York at Gramercy Park and a metal heart that turns to make the music box play. Inside on the left (not seen) are recollections from my first trip to Paris.
This piece incorporates a cigar box, transfers , papers, transparency, drawing and wax. A mechanism for a music box is attached, that when wound up plays a beautiful lyrical tune. The image below shows the interior of the box that contains a 3-D triangle shape and
leaf made of paper.
I did this piece shortly after my mother died. While going through her home and possessions, an emotional task we all will face, I found an old black and white photo of this tree with two people in it, circa early 1900's. There were no pencil written notes on the back as to who the people might be, so typical of that era. I have used the tree in several of my paintings. It is my way of paying tribute to something that was. Right now is all we have.

In a time before I was six years old I would sit on a box in the front seat of my parents old blue pickup truck and we would travel the U.S. In the summers we would pack up and go from Florida to Indiana to visit relatives. Then on to Wisconsin for adventures of camping and fishing. This piece is about a time that is lost to us...................when you could hear silence. A time before the web, DSL, facebook, twitter, texting, sexting, i-everything and the cloud. When there was time to listen and ponder all things.
"We Took A Turn At Nevermore" 36" x 36" Encaustic with Elements
Mixed Media Non-Representational series was created as a cathartic exercise. It was the beginning of a large body of work very dear to me.
The heart is most delicate: it must endure the ravages of time and turmoil. This is a relationship piece. It hangs in the home of a delightful couple in McKinney, Texas. They also commissioned me to create a piece for their son Matt. His visit to France was the inspiration.
This is the one of many paintings inspired by the Castle Sant'Angelo in Rome, Italy. The bridge is faced with travertine marble and spans the Tiber with three arches and ten angels. Both the castle and the bridge took on the name Sant'Angelo, explained by a legend that an angel appeared on the roof of the castle to announce the end of the plague in the seventh century. One of his last large projects, it called for ten angels holding instruments of the Passion: Bernini personally only finished the two originals of the Angels.
